Import spots from GPX or KML
Your spots should not be locked in one app. GPX, KML and CSV are open formats most map and GPS apps can export.
The formats
| Format | Used by | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| GPX | GPS devices, hiking and fishing apps | Waypoints in <wpt lat lon> with a name |
| KML | Google Earth and My Maps | Points are Placemarks with lon,lat coordinates (longitude first) |
| CSV | Spreadsheets | Columns name, lat, lon and optional notes |
Import into Moonlog
- Export your spots from the other app as GPX, KML or CSV.
- Open Spots and press Import file.
- Choose the file. Moonlog reports how many spots were added and how many skipped.
What gets skipped
- Coordinates outside the valid range (latitude beyond ±90 or longitude beyond ±180).
- Exact duplicates (same name and coordinates).
- KML placemarks without a point, such as lines and areas.
Export and share safely
Export from Spots in any of the three formats. Switch on Blur coordinates to round to 0.01° before sending a file to someone. See private fishing spot log.
Clean up
CSV is the easiest to tidy in a spreadsheet. Fix names and remove rows, then import again. Duplicates are skipped automatically.
